What does Manovich mean when he suggests that Cinema, the printed word and human-computer interface (HCI) could sit within the same conceptual plane?
Manovich suggests that they are a part of the same ‘conceptual plane’ as they are just different mediums with which information can be communicated.
Manovich claims that media is being liberated from traditional storage media – do you agree that this is a liberation and is anything lost by it?
I feel as though the use of the term liberated is justified especially considering the open nature of the internet as something places on there can be accessed much easier than ever before. However for reasons such as security and cost, information may be left as just written text as it can still be a more viable form of media storage.
How has cinema affected the way in which computer software is designed?
Cinema, as an ever-growing cultural interface, has affected computer software design through the introduction and popularity of the graphical user interfaces (GUIs). GUIs are the fundamental building blocks of pretty much everything you interact with on a computer screen. From icons such as google chrome (or whichever web browser you prefer) pinned on your task bar to every other clickable button on your screen, GUIs are almost everywhere.
